Introduction to Admissions

We are delighted you are considering Kent College Pembury for your daughter.

Kent College is a day and boarding school for girls aged 3 to 18. It is a Methodist School which forms part of the Methodist Independent Schools Trust that welcomes girls of all faiths and none. Kent College has a policy of accepting students with a range of abilities, from those who are very able to those with mild learning difficulties to those who have gaps in their knowledge due to interrupted schooling. We are able to do so because we provide a high level of individual attention through small classes and close monitoring. In addition, our Enhanced Learning Team co-ordinates individual learning programmes for girls who are having extra lessons when, for example, they are taking extra or early GCSEs, or filling gaps in their knowledge. As a result of these measures, examination results are impressive.

In the Senior School our main intakes are at Year 7, Year 9 and Lower Sixth Form. We also accept applications from students for entry into other year groups subject to places being available.

Visit our dedicated welcome website.

We strongly recommend, where possible, that prospective students and their parents visit the school to meet the Headmistress, staff and students, and to see the facilities. Visits are recommended in the two years prior to entry and we advise you to contact us well in advance to avoid disappointment.

We hold Open Mornings in October and March, and have smaller Open House events on a weekday morning throughout the year. You are very welcome to visit with your daughter or you may prefer to come yourselves in the first instance.

We can also arrange an individual visit where you can have a full tour of the school on a normal school day and meet with the Headmistress.

If you would like to apply for a place for your daughter, please complete and return the Application Form together with a non-refundable registration fee of £100 (if applicant's parents live in the European Union) or £150 (if applicant's parents live outside the European Union). Payment can be made by cheque, debit card or bank transfers. One form and fee is required per student.

You can print a copy of the Application Form to be completed and posted with a Payment Form and cheque, or Apply Online.

Application does not constitute an offer of a place; once we have received your form and fee your daughter will be held on our registrations list and you will be informed about entrance testing at the appropriate time.

Taster days

Where possible, we offer prospective students the opportunity to spend a 'Taster Day' at Kent College. This enables the girls to take part in lessons and activities giving them a better feel for the school. Prospective boarders are invited to stay overnight.

Application Process

Year 7 and Year 9

Girls applying to join Kent College in Year 7 should be registered by October of the year preceding entry, if not before. A report and reference from the candidate's current school will be requested in advance of the Entrance Day.  All external candidates for entry into Year 7 and 9 will sit computer-based, nationally standardised tests. Girls will also take part in a range of activities during Entrance Day designed to showcase their attitude to learning and they will participate in a group interview. Offer letters will be sent by the end of the Autumn Term,

Academic scholarships will be awarded on the basis of the tests taken on Entrance Assessment day and parents will be informed of scholarship awards by the end of the Autumn Term.

Practical scholarships in the Arts (Art, Drama, Dance, Music) and Sport will be assessed on separate days during the Autumn Term and parents will be informed of scholarship awards by the end of the Autumn Term. Please see the Scholarship section of this website to see the range of scholarship opportunities available.

Entry to the Sixth Form

Applications to the Sixth Form will be considered at any time during the year. External candidates wishing to be considered for the Sixth Form should register by the end of the Autumn Term in order to guarantee that they are able to study their chosen A-Level options. References will be sought from their current school and candidates will have an interview with either the Deputy Head Academic or the Head of Sixth Form.

Entry requirements are at least 6 or more GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, with Grade 6 or above in the subjects being pursued at A-Level. Students are expected to achieve a Grade 7 or above in Maths and the Sciences if they wish to study these subjects at A-Level.

Other Applications

Applications are welcome for entry to other year groups where we have capacity and will be assessed using a combination of CAT tests and English and Maths papers and a reference will be sought from the current school. Please check availability with the Registrar before proceeding.

Accepting a place

To formally accept an offer of a place we require a completed Acceptance Form, Parent Contract and deposit. Upon receipt of this, your daughter's place would be secure. For those joining Year 10 or Sixth Form we would also require a subject Options Form that will be sent to you. Closer to the point of entry a New Joiner Information Booklet and forms for completion will be sent to you with any other paperwork required.
