Product Design: Textiles
Offering creative skills and practical experience, Textiles Technology is a popular department at Kent College. We aim to promote 'designing and making' in the context of 21st Century applications using traditional and modern technology.
At both GCSE and A level in all areas, a range of advanced 'design and make' tasks are completed. These address complex skills and concepts leading to the final coursework tasks and requirements set by the AQA Examining Board.
AS/A2 level Design & Technology - AQA Product Design Textiles:
This is an exciting course which allows students to develop creativity and individuality at an advanced level. Students study advanced techniques in the Lower SIxth and develop an original collection for catwalk from a personally chosen theme. Students study historical and contemporary aspects of fashion design and these are related to commercial production and marketing.
Theory forms a substantial part of the course in order to answer the final examination papers. In the Upper Sixth students are required to complete a Product Study which is an enquiry into the design and manufacture of a contemporary Textile product. Students are also entered for Silver and Gold BA CREST Awards as appropriate and can enter the annual Young Fashion Designer Awards coordinated and hosted by Kent College. This is an excellent foundation for Fashion at Further and Higher Education level.
