Careers in Health Day

On Thursday 2nd November we welcomed The Medical Mavericks to Kent College Science Department. During the one hour workshops, girls from Year 9 to Upper Sixth took part in various activities covering a range of medical techniques. They were given the opportunity to::

  • Use the ultrasound machine to see inside their body
  • See inside their eye with an iPhone retina scan
  • Record and print an ECG from their heart
  • Try key hole surgery on a training device used by surgeons
  • Use a real needle to take fake blood from a fake arm
  • Experience different eye diseases with pathology goggles
  • Test hearing and reflexes
  • Take basic medical observations such as blood pressure and temperature

The day was informative and provided the girls with hands on experience of many of the roles in medicine. It was also lots of fun.
