Kent College Celebrates Successful Sixth Form

Kent College is celebrating yet another set of successful A Level results, with a 100% pass rate and three-quarters of the girls achieving top A*, A or B grades.  The school in Pembury is also proud to announce an increase in their average university points score which is enabling girls to secure places at top Russell Group universities, as well overseas higher education placements in Sydney, the Netherlands, Boston and New York.

The results this year show strength across all 29 subjects, with 11 girls awarded three straight A’s or above. The news highlights excellence across the curriculum and epitomizes the hard work of all the girls and devoted staff.  Parents and girls have praised the school for the wide variety of subjects it offers for A level learning, as well as its commitment to tailoring each programme of study to suit girls’ individual needs.  Particular congratulations this year to the Theatre Studies department who saw 71% of grades awarded A* or A, and the English department who saw 62% of grades awarded the top A* or A marks. 

The class of 2016 have also demonstrated their versatility and hard work in gaining outstanding academic achievements, as well as actively participating in other areas of school life including Head Girl roles and leadership responsibilities. 

Headmistress, Ms Julie Lodrick commented: "We continue to be proud of the academic achievements of the girls at Kent College and our increasing strength across the curriculum. Alongside the outstanding A Level results, we are also delighted with the AS grades, which show strength and allow an excellent springboard for the girls to commence their Upper Sixth studies, which start in September.  At Kent College, we pride ourselves on nurturing and supporting our girls to become independent women ready for the future.  We recognise it is more important than ever that alongside their academic qualifications, the girls leave us having developed the confidence, resilience and leadership skills that will make them employable at the highest level.”

Head Girl Kirsty Girvan who achieved 2A* and 1A and will be studying Geography at Edinburgh University commented: "I am overwhelmed by my results today and am so thankful to all my teachers who have helped me achieve this. We as a Sixth Form all supported one another, and we as a Head Girl team made a conscious effort to balance our leadership tasks and school work. I think it is important to experience some level of responsibility in school life, I am very grateful for all the skills I have learnt and memories I have made here at Kent College.

Congratulations to Lauren Newman who achieved 3A* and 1B and will study English and Classics at Exeter University commented: "I am so happy; I cannot believe it. Thank you to the school and my teachers for helping me achieve these results, and to my friends for a fantastic few years.”

On hearing her results Alice Finta, who achieved 2A* and 2A grades and will study Spanish and Portuguese at UCL commented: "I am so relieved to have found out my results today. Kent College has been such a huge part of helping me achieve these grades, especially the Modern Foreign Languages department. I am very excited to be moving to London and am looking forward to embracing my next chapter.”

International rally car champion and Deputy Head Girl, Catie Munnings achieved 1A* 1A and 1B commented "I have adored my time at Kent College.  I have been here since the Prep School and couldn’t have asked for better teachers and support throughout the years. I have had a really busy year competing and the school has gone above and beyond to ensure that I still could achieve my academic goals.”

Dance Prefect Katherine Sweet who this morning celebrated her 1A* 2A and 1B commented: "Kent College has helped prepare me for these exams in many ways and encouraged us to work hard academically but still have fun with all the extra-curricular and enrichment opportunities that they offer.”

Record Year for A* Grades at Kent College Pembury

When Kent College’s Year 11 girls collected their GCSE results they were thrilled to find that they had performed extremely well.  Following on from the  outstanding A Level results, the school in Pembury celebrated its highest ever A* rating, with an impressive 27% of exams awarded this grade - a 7% increase on the previous year.

Exceptionally, 57% of the grades were awarded either an A* or A with some girls achieving the top results in all of their 11 subjects, showcasing the high calibre of teaching and hard work from the girls.  Particular congratulations to the Latin department who nurtured girls to achieve 100% A* or A grades, the Science Department whose Biology students achieved 90% A* or A marks, and the Geography and German departments whose grades were awarded 80% A or above.

Kent College’s academic performance continues to improve as the emphasis is very much on an all-round education where the broad curriculum and outstanding pastoral care builds confidence and ensures that all girls continue to perform to the very best of their ability.  Girls give their all in the classroom, on the sports field, fundraising for charity and in the performing arts, as well as striving towards individual goals, which from this year’s cohort include future Olympic dreams and national textile design honours.

Headmistress, Ms Julie Lodrick commented: “We are extremely proud of all that the girls have accomplished during their GCSE studies and the fact they have achieved our best ever top grades. The unfaltering determination, dedication, creativity and hard work of everyone involved has been reflected in the 2016 results. The girls will enter Kent College’s Sixth Form with the self-belief and confidence that they can achieve their ambitions and we look forward to their continued success over the next two years.These record results have rounded off an exceptional year for Kent College, after being awarded the top grade of ‘excellent’ across the board in our inspection in December.  We are all set for an exciting and even more successful year ahead.”

Abigail Evans, who joined Kent College when she was just 3 years old and has aced this summer’s examinations with 11A* and 1A commented: “I am really pleased with my results. Thank you to my teachers for all their support, due to their faith in our capabilities my friends and I have all improved from our predictive grades. Both of my sisters recently left Kent College and have told me all about the Sixth Form, I can’t wait.”

Alexandra Abbs who achieved a super set of results, 7A* and 4A grades, commented: “I am extremely happy with each of my grades. Being at Kent College with fantastic teachers and supportive friends has enabled me to do well in my exams, thank you.”

Beth Peachey followed up being awarded second in the GCSE Young Fashion Designer of the Year by gaining 8A* and 3A grades commented: “I am so relieved after opening my results and tremendously proud of what is written on this bit of paper. Thank you to all my teachers for their guidance which has been second to none, without them I wouldn’t have achieved what I have. I am really looking forward to September and focusing on studying French, English, Psychology and Spanish.”

Champion swimmer, Annabel Guye-Johnson who this morning celebrated her 5A*, 5A and 1B commented: “I am delighted with my results, thank you so much to all my teachers. Kent College has supported me in and out of the classroom over the past few years. If I have had to miss a lesson, due to swimming competitions, the teachers always made sure that when I returned I was fully up to speed with what I had missed. I am really looking forward to the next two years and focusing on subjects that I love.”

Aspiring vet, sixteen-year old Marie Srotyr who achieved 7A* 3A and 1B was thrilled upon opening her results commented: “I was really nervous this morning but now I am so happy, I cannot stop staring at the grades. I am looking forward to continuing my journey at Kent College and spending time with the Upper Sixth girls, who I hear are a fantastic support through Sixth Form life.”
