The Margaret James Society

At Kent College we offer all our scholars a wide range of lectures to stretch and enhance their academic learning through automatic membership to The Margaret James Society. The Margaret James Society, was founded in 2010 in memory of our former Headmistress, to add breadth and depth to the academic experience of the scholars of Kent College. Every academic year there is a series of topical and academic lectures given by visiting guests or teaching staff.  In the last academic year, scholars have enjoyed lectures from authors, art historians, Science and Classics departments.

"The lectures have been very interesting to attend and as a support for the subjects I study they have proved invaluable. I like being a scholar at KC because I think there is a real sense of community and to have the opportunity to listen to lectures from my teachers and outside speakers on such a large range of topics has been very thought provocative."  Guinevere, Margaret James Scholar

Every academic year one of our scholars is honored as the Margaret James Scholar in recognition of her academic performance as well as dedication to her subject.

"The Margaret James lectures give us the opportunity to hear real academic presentations on themes beyond the curricula we study: some link closely to subjects we may already have an interest in, while others are entirely different from anything we might learn in class. Elsewhere they tend to give scholars a reduction in fees and say no more about it, so being a KC scholar is great because we get extra enrichment from the chance to attend some really interesting, intellectually stimulating talks on a variety of subjects, ranging (so far) from Proto Indo-European to the Fame of Charlie Chaplin."  Lucy, KC Scholar
