Catering & Weekly Menu

 
We offer a large selection of hot and cold meals each day and aim to cater for all dietary needs. Every day there is a choice of a hot cooked meal, as well as a vegetarian option, choice of hot jacket potatoes, a hot pasta dish, a selection of paninis, a fresh salad bar, and a selection of home-made bread.

We actively encourage all students to try new dishes and to eat a balanced diet. Our catering staff are also on hand to monitor students' diets and promote healthy alternatives. The dining hall also has chilled, filtered water machines to encourage all students and staff to drink regularly.

In 2010 Kent College was nominated as Independent School of the Year in the National Educatering Awards.  Kent College was shortlisted down to the final three for excellence in catering.  Nominees for this award are catering managers and supervisors of private schools that can demonstrate quantifiable success in improving and maintaining a catering service of excellence that is expected by the school, parents and students.

The Educatering Awards commented:

"Food at Kent College is sourced locally, all meals are cooked on the premises and all special dietary and religious requirements are well accommodated.  Sarah has the best interests of the pupils at heart."

Healthy Eating

All main course ingredients are fresh and cooked on site. We have a policy of not adding salt to our vegetables or meat, and so rely solely on herbs and spices to add extra flavour to our dishes. Sea salt and black pepper is, however, available to the senior school girls to add to their dishes, if required. We encourage healthy eating at all times, so all dressing on the salad bar are low fat varieties to encourage a healthy diet.

Fresh Fruit & Vegetables

At each meal, there is a selection of fresh fruit and vegetables available. For boarders, these items are readily available both at breakfast and supper enabling girls to have their recommended 'five a day' intake of fruit and vegetables. Seasonal fruit and vegetables are sourced from a variety of suppliers, including some local produce. For example, our apples are sourced from Kent.

Meat & Fish

Only prime cuts of lean, fresh meat are purchased and sourced from British farmers. In keeping with school tradition, fish is provided each Friday.

Boarders' Meals

Boarding students are provided with three meals each day. There is a selection of cereals, cooked breakfasts and toast available in the mornings and every evening the girls enjoy a home-cooked supper. Our catering staff work hard to ensure the girls have a balanced diet and variety of cooked meals. Each week, they are treated to a traditional roast meal and birthdays are celebrated with cake and candles.

Packed Lunches

As many of our students take part in lunch time and after school activities and clubs, we provide packed lunches and ensure the girls have plenty of time to enjoy their lunch or early supper. Packed lunches consist of a selection of sandwich fillings, a yoghurt, piece of fruit, healthy snackbar and bottle of mineral water.

Dietary Requirements

Kitchen staff are aware of all students' dietary requirements and meals are tailor made so that every student is able to enjoy a nutritious meal each day. As a result, there are always meals available to girls with special dietary requirements and soya milk is available at meal times.
