Kent College shortlisted for award

We are delighted to have been shortlisted for the Partnership/Outreach Award on the 2020 AMCIS IMPACT Awards.

2019 saw the launch of the first formal working partnership of 8 local secondary schools around Tunbridge Wells and the creation of the West Kent Independent State School Partnership by Kent College. The aim is to provide high quality, cross curricular learning, to reach out to young people regardless of background, to share resources, to enable teachers to extend their professional development and encourage collaboration between local schools. The partner schools are Kent College, Judd, Skinners', Skinners' Kent Academy, Beechwood Sacred Heart, Mascalls, The Malling School and Oakley School. Tunbridge Wells Girls Grammar School joined the partnership in March 2020.

In 2019, the first cross curricular events were launched; a Lecture held at Judd was followed by a day of Masterclasses as Mascalls for pupils in Years 7 and 8, the theme for both was celebrating 500 years of the life of Leonardo da Vinci. A STEM project to design and build go-karts for Year 9 pupils from 2 partner schools was undertaken.

In 2020, the second annual Lecture ran on February 24th at Beechwood and a day of Masterclasses will run later in the year at Skinners' Kent Academy. These follow the theme of Adventures in Sound.

The STEM project has been extended and launched to all partnership schools with the build of go-karts to be raced in a brand new schools race at the Tunbridge Wells Soapbox Challenge.
