Admissions for International Students

Admissions Policy

Click here to view our International Boarding Prospectus

We welcome international students and provide for the educational and cultural needs of girls from all over the world. For the benefit of all students, the school has a policy of  maintaining a good balance of British and international students in classes and boarding houses. KC is not a language school although we accept overseas students whose English is sufficiently advanced for them to learn alongside other girls, whilst they improve their English. An experienced teacher of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) provides extra English tuition for those who need it. Depending on how much support each individual needs, EAP lessons are provided in small groups of girls of similar ability or on a one to one basis. Private lessons in spoken English are also available. Extra charges for these are applicable.

International students at KC are well motivated and keen to learn. They come from professional families worldwide and go on to study at top universities in the UK and abroad after obtaining excellent GCSE and A level results at Kent College.

Entry Requirements

Applicants whose native language is not English should be reasonably fluent in written and spoken English. They will need to provide evidence of their ability by sitting the school's own entrance tests in English and mathematics, which can be arranged in their own country. The approximate English standards for entry are:

  • Years 7 - 9 (ages 11-13): students should be working at the level of, or have passed, the Cambridge Preliminary English Test.
  • Years 10 -11 (ages 14-16): working at the level of, or have passed the Cambridge First Certificate. 6th Form (ages 16-18): ideally to have passed the Cambridge First Certificate.
  • Sixth Form candidates will need a good standard of English to enable them to cope with the demands of the AS/A level courses.

Applications may be made at any time of the year although to avoid disappointment, early application (at least a year in advance) is recommended. Candidates should complete and return an Application Form with a registration fee of £100.00 (applicants living in the European Union) or £150.00 (applicants living outside the European Union). Please send a copy of the student's latest school report and evidence of any achievements to support your application. We will also contact the student's current school for a reference and details of the student's predicted examination grades (where applicable eg IGCSEs).

Where possible, we require each overseas applicant to be interviewed and we can usually arrange for both the tests and interview to take place in the student's home country. We work with a network of educational agents worldwide who can provide this service or we can arrange for the student to sit the tests in their own school or nearest British Council office.

Once tests and references have been received by the school the application is processed as soon as possible and we will contact you to confirm if a place has been offered. At this stage you are required to complete the acceptance form and pay a deposit to secure the place. A joining pack is then despatched in the months prior to the joining date.

Overseas Applications for Scholarships

We can arrange for overseas pupils to sit academic scholarship papers in their own country. However, unless applicants are able to attend the school for assessment and interview we are unable to consider overseas applicants for sport, art, music and drama scholarships.
