Friday 9 July
It's here – our last day in Nursery. Our teachers say they have really enjoyed this year and although they are sad to see us go, they are looking forward to watching us through the years.
We have all learnt so much during our time in Nursery. Some of us can now read, some can recognise and write numbers. For some of us the important things we have learnt are to dress and undress ourselves or to share. When we first arrived in Nursery we found it difficult to do most of these but over the year, we have grown and are now looking forward to our new challenges in Reception.
Miss Soutter and Mrs Wicks have sometimes been a bit cross but most of the time we make them smile and laugh. They will miss us and we will miss them but we have promised to pop in for a cuddle in September!
As for us in Reception…what can be said? It has been such a wonderful year. We have grown up so much and are now all beautiful young ladies ready for the next step into Year One. We are all able to read and can write away ‘til our hearts content. As for our numbers, we have had many happy a moment challenging our teachers Mrs Dabin and Miss Munro with ridiculously clever sums! We have also become such wonderful friends with each other and have become so close always looking out for each other. We will miss Reception so much and have already seen some tears come from Miss Munro! We will hopefully be back down come September for a cuddle with Mrs Beard.
We all hope everyone has a happy and safe summer break. Enjoy the holidays and we look forward to seeing everyone in September for lots of hard work! For those that are leaving, we wish you all the best in your new school. Lots of love from all the Early Years Staff.

Thursday 8 July
This morning was our Early Years Celebration Assembly. The Butterflies all received a cd which has all the photos taken of us since we started in Nursery. Mrs Lawson was wearing a special gown and she shook our hands. When we got back to class, our Mummies and Daddies came to say well done and we gave Miss Soutter and Mrs Wicks lovely presents.
In the afternoon, Miss Soutter read us a story about Kipper and a cake. Georgie (our work experience girl) helped us to make it – we needed flour, milk, jam, cornflakes, sugar, baked beans and tomato ketchup!
In Reception we all received a certificate for completing the Early Year Foundation Stage in our Assembly We shook hands with Mrs Lawson and then we got everyone to join in our song. It was funny watching all the grown ups dancing! This afternoon, we had fun with our new teachers! We went to our new classes upstairs and at playtime we played in the big girls’ playground! It was all just too exciting.

Wednesday 7 July
It was our last swim today. Mrs Cuttill and Mrs Morris said we were going on a seaside bear hunt! It meant lots of jumping around, putting our head under water (which most of us can do) and then a big play with all the water toys! Our swimming teachers came to our class and gave us our certificates and badges that we have worked so hard for this term.
In the afternoon, Merry shared some models she had made and a book all about the first moon landing. We enjoyed the story and Merry enjoyed showing us what she had made.
Today in reception Mrs Cuttill came to visit us fully clothed!
She had badges and certificates for all of us for all the lovely swimming we do in the swimming pool. It’s funny to think that some of us couldn’t put our faces in the water when we first started and now we can put our whole head under the water and pick things up at the bottom of the pool. |

Tuesday 6 July
There was no ballet today, so we had extra time in the classroom. We got out every single puzzle and found out that some of our games and puzzles are missing pieces. This means we have had to throw them away, which is a shame. Our teachers explained that if we don’t tidy up properly then bits do go missing so we are going to make a big effort not to lose any more.
We are very lucky because we had a visit from a World Champion! Beth Tweddle visited us and we gave her a card that we had all made and had our photo taken with her. Our teachers had shown us a clip of her in a competition. We don’t know why they laughed when we told them that 'we can do that!’

Monday 5 July
Well, it’s here! Our last week in Nursery.
This morning, the Butterflies practised for our Celebration Assembly on Thursday. It is to celebrate the end of our first year in the Foundation Stage and for Reception girls to celebrate the end of the Foundation Stage.
The Caterpillars had circle time and we talked about we had done over the weekend. There seemed to be lots of cake baking going on!
Nursery and Reception were the only ones up at the lunch hall as everyone else was at a picnic, due to Sports Day and Prize Giving. We still managed to make lots of noise though!
This afternoon we carried on with painting, building using small blocks, water play and board games. A lovely start to the week.
Today in Reception we had a practice run for our Celebration Assembly on Thursday. We are all enjoying singing our songs.
We went for a lovely walk in the shady woods to look for mini beasts.
We found spiders, ants, woodlice and a millipede that crawled up Louisa’s arm. Paulina had two woodlice in her pot and she hopes they will get married and have babies.

Friday 2 July
What a very busy morning! Mrs Lawson brought someone with her to help us with cookery – Mr Huang (Mrs Huang’s husband). He says he always reads our Early Years web page and so he knew we always cook on Fridays. He was very good and helped us with tricky things like beating the butter and mixing in the flour. Our biscuits looked lovely, especially after we decorated them. We saved some for Mr Huang and we hope he enjoys them. We also had French with Madame Wilson and learnt a song about spiders! Next week is our last week in Nursery and although it is very exciting, our teachers say they feel a little bit sad. We think they are very strange!
Phew, what another lovely sunny day in reception!
We all gave a cheer when we knew we had plan, do, review this morning.
Daisy decided to write about her holiday she is going to in Italy; she would like to go swimming everyday.
Some of us were inspired by the year 3 Egyptian assembly and decided to write about it or draw Egyptian pictures. Hettie wanted to draw some mummies (Egyptian kind) having a football match! This afternoon we had our last modern dance lesson in reception. The next time we see Miss Seenan we will be Year 1 girls.
This afternoon Prep School had a fire drill. We all behaved beautifully and so our teachers say we would be safe if there ever was a fire.

Thursday 1 July
The Butterflies went with Mrs Wicks to use the Art Room upstairs. We were going to make some cards but Mrs Wicks thinks we were a bit overawed by the room as they didn’t turn out quite as expected! The Caterpillars stayed with Miss Soutter and made snakes with clay and learnt the ‘s’ sound. We pronounce this like a snake sound – ssss and not ‘suh’. It is important that we say the sound properly as this will help lots when we are ready to read. In PE we had lots of fun with the parachute.
Mr Shipton, the School Chaplain came down to visit us and to say goodbye. We will miss his visits |

Wednesday 30 June
Wednesday mornings in Nursery mean swimming! Last week we worked on our badges and this week we concentrated on things that we need a bit more practise with. The first group needed to jump in from the side and put their whole face in the water. Most of us can now do this but some need to try over the holidays.
In the afternoon we were guests at the Year 1 wedding! We all dressed up and went to the Year 6 gazebo to watch our friends getting ‘married’. This was part of their RE lesson and there was a bride, groom, best man, parents of the happy couple and bridesmaids. Mr Shipton officiated at the ceremony and we had a fantastic time!
Today in reception we played with the sound games. There were lots of games to choose from and it’s lovely that we all know how to take turns.
In PE we did lots of stretching and played relay games. Relays are very tricky as some of us forget to go when it’s our turn and some of us want to run back again!
In music we practiced songs for our celebration assembly – we cannot wait for our mummies & daddies to come and watch us!

Tuesday 29 June
We have been learning about capacity. Using cups and beads or water, we showed full, empty, nearly full/empty and half full/empty (which is the same!). This morning was watch dance so our Mummies and Daddies could see how we have progressed since last term. Although the content is the same, we hope you can see an improvement in our pointy toes, listening skills and general technique. Next year we get the chance to do modern dance in lovely brightly coloured Lycra outfits as well!
This afternoon, we all changed into our gym kit for a walk up to the strawberry fields at Downingberry Farm. The road was very busy but our teachers wore bright yellow jackets which they thought were very funny – we don’t know why! We all had a plastic box called a punnet and we were allowed to eat some strawberries as well as pick them to take home.
Today in reception we thought long and hard about our favourite things that we have enjoyed doing in Reception. Olivia wrote ‘I enjoy sound work because it is so much fun’. Jessica wrote ‘I like music because I like learning songs’. Some of us found it really hard to think of something because we enjoy EVERYTHING!
We also had watch dance where our mummies came and to watch our ballet, we all have lovely pointy toes now. |
|
|
Monday 28 June
What a very hot day! We have had to make sure we have not been in too much sun and that we drink lots of water.
In circle time we talked about what we had done over the weekend. Some of us made cakes (actually quite a lot of us said that!), some went to the beach, others used paddling pools at home and some of us even saw some football on the television. We then drew pictures and wrote about it. Alexandra wrote ‘I had loads of water on my pool’.
In the afternoon, we had music with Mrs Chapman and drama with Mrs Corp. We have worked very hard today!
Today in reception we have done some special writing for Mr Shipton because he is leaving us at the end of term. Lots of us will miss his assemblies and his tales of when he was a little boy.
We also investigated which 3D shapes roll and don’t roll. Which of these do you think could roll – sphere, cube, cylinder, cuboid, pyramid? We have practiced our adding and subtracting and counting in tens. It is a lot quicker to count to a hundred in tens than in units!

Friday 25 June
Hurrah! Mrs Lawson is back in the kitchen! Well, to be more precise, Mrs Lawson is back doing cookery with Nursery. We were all so excited and to celebrate we made beautiful butterfly cakes complete with chocolate antennae (which fits it perfectly with our minibeast topic). They look amazing and we can’t wait to get home and eat them.
This afternoon, we are going to inspect our veggie patch. As it has been so hot and no rain for a while, we think we will have lots of watering to do.
This morning in reception we had our favourite plan do review. Rachel chose to make a castle using ALL the polygons. Kasia chose to finish off her picture she started with her buddy in our buddy assembly this morning. This is where we get to meet up with our big year 4 buddies and draw, read or play together.
This afternoon we have ‘watch dance’ in modern and lots of our mummies will watch us dance to High School Musical. How fabby!

Thursday 24 June
Today in Nursery, the Butterflies went to our library upstairs. Mrs Wicks encourages us to choose books and treat them properly. We shouldn’t bend covers, turn pages roughly or leave on the floor. The Caterpillars have been learning about spiders. We found out that they have six or eight eyes as well as eight legs! We made webs and spiders that are hanging in the class. Our teachers keep walking into them which is very funny!
In gym, our gym teachers used the big parachute and we really enjoyed all the games that we played. This afternoon, we have been ordering numbers and sticking juggling clowns.
Today in reception was a special day – it was Mrs Beard’s birthday. She brought in some sweets for everyone which we all enjoyed after swimming. We all tried swimming in the deep end of the big pool. Some of us were a little nervous but our swimming teachers were really pleased that we all had a go.
We also wrote facts on spiders and we are glad we don’t live in Australia because they have spider’s that bite you and spiders that are huge. We also had sums to work out in our math’s books.
As it will be very hot for the rest of this week, please remember to apply sun cream at home before we get to school. |

Wednesday 23 June
It was lovely to be swimming again. Although we have been doing fun things for the last two Wednesdays (our trip and Sports Day), we have missed our time in the pool. Mrs Wicks was very excited when her group went in the big pool. We all jumped in and then swam back and forth across the pool. Our swimming teachers wanted to see what we could do and asked us to do a mushroom float. This involved us floating with our face in the water and then hugging our knees, still with our face under the water. It was tricky but we all enjoyed doing it.
We have been listening to a story about spiders and then making our own webs by weaving wool around two sticks. We don’t think we will catch any flies! This afternoon, we will be making spiders which will hang from the webs we have made.
Today in Reception we have been practicing our cursive letter formation.
We had PE outside in the lovely sunshine and four of us had to pretend to be mice and one of us had to be the cat and try to catch us! We also got to play with the parachute.
We had a busy afternoon with music and made chocolate crispy spiders.

Monday 21 June
This morning we have been working very hard. Mrs Andrews helped us with our mouse control, using a clicking game on the computer. Whenever a mouse popped up in the cheese, we had to click on him. It was very funny and we enjoyed trying to catch the mouse. We also looked at numbers and ordered the tiles.
There is a Kent College in Nepal and every class is making a book for the children there. We all drew pictures of ourselves and wrote our names. The pictures will be laminated and made into a book. Mrs Wicks showed us photos of the school and children, using the smart board. We noticed the classroom had no carpets, pictures or toys and the bathrooms are outside. We think we are very lucky girls.
Today in Reception in our maths session we have been adding on.
We thought this was really funny as we used teddy bears as our numbers, although some of us used our fingers.
In sounds today we have been word and sentence building – we are getting really clever now putting our words into sentences.
This afternoon we are really excited because we are going to watch the big year 6 girls’ production ‘Ernie’s Incredible Illucinations’

Friday 18 June
This morning we have had lots to do! Some of us needed to make special cards for a special day on Sunday (it’s a surprise, so we can’t tell you anything yet!). Cookery was lots of fun, with a gooey dough mixture that we shaped into scones. Once they were out of the oven, they were very different and looked delicious.
In French, we have been learning about escargot (did you know that means snail?) and we were quite revolted when we found out that some people eat them, cooked in garlic butter!
We drew pictures of our Sports Day and wrote about our pictures. Mrs Wicks said we are very clever and will soon be big enough to be Reception Class girls.
Our football wall is looking great, with our football shirts on display. England are playing tonight and we are hoping that we will win this game.

Thursday 17 June
We are all still very excited after our Sports Day yesterday. Today has been very busy. The Butterflies went into assembly and listened to some big girls playing instruments. They were called woodwind instruments which meant that all the music was made by blowing.
There were lots of crafts for us to do – Teddy Bears for our September ‘Welcome’ board and special cards for a special day on Sunday. We could play with the puppet theatre, make beautiful bead necklaces or play outside on the bikes (even though it was rather cold). This afternoon we are making football shirts, using two colours and making a repeating pattern.

Wednesday 16 June
How lovely to watch a sports event without the noise of the vuvuzelas! Yes, today was Early Years Sports Day and everyone took part. Nursery had a running race, an obstacle race and a novelty race. The novelty race was collecting a bucket, spade sunhat and ending lying on a towel. Such a shame it wasn’t beach weather! Reception had the same races and they also had a relay race. Everyone cheered each other on and our teachers gave us stickers at the finishing line. They explained that in Early Years we don’t have winners or losers and that it doesn’t matter if you finish at the front or the back.
We all liked seeing our Mummies and Daddies run and then helped our younger brother and sisters run a race as well. After all the fun, we joined our families for a lovely (but cold!) picnic. Some then went home, others went for a swim and a few lucky ones went back to school for an afternoon of fun!

Tuesday 15 June
This morning, we talked about the bees again as not everyone was here yesterday. We painted some big and small bees on yellow paper using black paint. We also drew pictures and wrote some interesting facts. This afternoon we are making cards.
Tomorrow is Sports Day. Please remember to put sun cream on us before we come to school, just in case!
In Reception, we are also looking at bees. We listened to a story about bees and then did some copy writing. Louisa wrote ‘Bees collect pollen. They fly from flower to flower and they go back to their hive.’ This afternoon in ICT with Mrs Andrews, we are designing our own butterflies.
We are also looking forward to Sports Day tomorrow and think it should be lots of fun.

Monday 14 June
In Nursery we have been learning about bees. We discovered that the boy bees are very lazy and do nothing except eat the honey! The Queen bee is the only one that lays the eggs which will turn into baby bees. The really fun part was when we all got to taste the honey.
This afternoon the new Nursery girls came for a visit and we all went into Reception. We already know the teachers and we are quite used to the classroom but we met some new friends that will be joining us in September. It was nice to use the toys without the other Reception girls in the classroom!
Today we finished our ice cream art for the hall. We also wrote in our writing books a description of our favourite mini beast, and the class had to guess which one it was.
This afternoon it was very exciting because we went to visit our new teachers in Year 1 and the nursery girl’s went into reception class. |
|
|
Friday 11 June
This morning we went and watched Year 5 assembly. We go into assembly more often now, as we are such big girls and when we are in Reception we will be going every day.
To end our ladybird week of activities we made ladybird pizzas with Mrs Wicks. We each had a base, some tomato paste, grated cheese, olives and baby tomatoes. We cut our olives using scissors, which we thought was quite funny! They looked delicious.
After break, we wrote letters to Michael and Chris at the Sevenoaks Wildlife Centre. We wrote about what we enjoyed the most – tree hugging, pond dipping, the story and bug hunting. Our teachers will send them off next week.
Today in reception we had plan, do, review.
We all love thinking about different things to do in the classroom and hearing what our friends are going to do. Brogan enjoyed learning about money this week so much that she wanted the coins to copy and draw. Some of us enjoyed adding and taking away that we ‘wanted to do sums’. Some on paper and some on the smart board.
After our busy morning we enjoyed our favourite lunch of fish, peas and chips.
This afternoon we have modern dance and our mummies have the opportunity to come and view our fabulous work. |

Thursday 10 June
We are still having lots of fun with mini beasts! This morning we learnt lots of facts about ladybirds and discovered that young ladybirds are yellow. We painted ladybird bodies and wings which were then joined together with split pins, for our minibeast display.
Did you know that the football World Cup starts tomorrow in South Africa? England will be playing some matches which we hope they will win.We have been talking about South Africa and learning about the different animals you can find there.
Today in Reception, some of us were still a little tired from our trip yesterday.
We all had so much fun we thought it would be nice to write about our favourite thing about the day. For most of us it was the ride in the mini bus and for others it was eating our packed lunch!
We also had to describe coins to our friends and see if they could guess the correct one. We also had to work out how much more money we needed to buy things - we think we are getting quite clever with our money now.

Wednesday 9 June
Today we visited Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve. We travelled on the school minibuses, which was very exciting! When we got there, we listened to ‘The Crunching Munching Caterpillar’ story in a big tent. There were different activities for us to do. Our favourite ones were tree shaking and mini pond dipping.
After a picnic lunch we went indoors for a craft activity. We looked at the life cycle of a butterfly and then had lots of fun cutting, colouring and sticking. Once that was finished, it was time for a walk and we found lots of questions about our story. We also found some giant leaves with big holes and we hoped we didn’t find any giant minibeasts! It was fun pretending to be a caterpillar and finding different leaves to stick on card.
We all waved goodbye to Chris and Michael from the centre. It was a fantastic day and some of us slept on the journey back to school. We will need a good sleep tonight! |

Tuesday 8 June
It was a funny start to the morning as the big road was closed so everyone was late. We were rather fed up after sitting in our cars for so long so our teachers said we could have a quick play. After ballet, we talked about our minibeast hunt. We remembered all the ones we had seen and then picked photographs and pictures to stick on our paper. Then we wrote something about our minibeast. Inara wrote ‘spidr klim on a web.’ In the afternoon, we started making ice cream pictures which will be displayed in the main corridor, ready for the Year Six end of year production. We used paint and different collage materials including cotton wool, tissue paper and real hundreds and thousands!
Today in Reception we heard the story of ‘Incy Wincy Spider’, and had to write it in our own words. It was all about a spider’s adventure being blown in the wind and landing on different animals and finally landing on a beautiful silver web - luckily it was his mummy’s web. Now Incy Wincey is safely home in bed. |

Friday 28 May
Today we have made ‘just about perfect chocolate chip cookies’ (recipe name – no indication of how they turn out!). Mrs Wicks let us use the electric whisk which was so much fun! We took it in turns to hold the bowl to stop it slipping. We liked looking at all the ingredients and loved the smell of the muscovado sugar – the caster sugar had no smell at all. The vanilla extract also smelt very yummy! We watched the cookies in the oven and saw how they spread across the tray.
This afternoon, all of Early Years are walking to the farm shop. Our teachers have to wear very bright jackets so that car drivers will see us and slow down. Reception will see all the wonderful things that you can buy in the shop and Nursery will see if there is anything different from last time. We hope to visit again to pick strawberries!
The chicks had to leave us as there will not be anyone to look after them. Everyone was a bit sad (especially the teachers!) but we hope we will see them again when they are bigger.
Have a lovely half term and we have our trip to look forward to when we get back. Letters are coming home today about Sports Day – please return after the holiday. Thank you!

Thursday 27 May
Today we have done lots of activities about chicks! We talked about the life cycle of a chicken and cut out pictures of an egg, a chick hatching and a chicken. Then, we stuck these in a little book and used our fingers to paint a chick for the front cover. We also painted large pictures of a chick and stuck yellow feathers on as well.
When the Butterflies go to gym, the Caterpillars have a music and movement session. We love dancing and moving to the songs our teachers play. One of our favourites is Mrs Bunny!
In the afternoon, Mrs Wicks and Mrs Cyster had to clean the chicks’ box out. They showed us the mess and our teachers explained that if you have a pet it needs to be cared for and that includes cleaning as well as feeding. Just as we were leaving to go home another chick hatched – we think we have about fifteen now.

Wednesday 26 May
We were all very excited about seeing the chicks today and were amazed that more had hatched over night. We think it’s quite funny the way our teachers are behaving – they can’t stop looking at them and we hear lots of ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’!
There have been lots of visitors to Early Years but we have still got on with all our work. As well as drawing pictures of the chicks and eggs we are making another class book. This will be a recipe book and will include things that we enjoy making on our regular Friday cookery time. We have watched some items on the smart board to help us with ideas of things to make and we have looked at recipe books to see what they look like.
In Reception, we left school yesterday and only 2 chicks had hatched. When we arrived this morning we had 5! They are so cute and fluffy. We thought it would be nice to write some rules down about the chicks, Natalia came up with a very important rule and that is to wash your hands.
We had a whole school photograph this morning, we hope we don’t look too wind swept. We managed to fit in some PE. Can we please make sure we all have shorts, tops, jumpers and trainers for after half term.

Tuesday 25 May
******* Breaking News!*******
The chicks are hatching! We have all been checking the eggs since we noticed a few cracks had appeared on two of the eggs this morning. This afternoon, one of the eggs had a hole and we could see a tiny beak pecking through. After about 30 minutes, the chick had broken through and was chirping away. We think our teachers are rather excited! We look forward to seeing more chicks hatch before the weekend!
In Nursery, we have been looking at books that we have made, about our trip to the farm shop and our assembly. There are lots of photographs for us look at and in the farm shop book, there is lots of our writing and drawings as well. This afternoon we have been learning about money. We think it’s very confusing that a five pence coin is worth the same as five separate penny coins!
Today in Reception this morning Mrs Dabin read Farmer Ham and we had to put the story sticks in the same order as the story and then write it in our own words for our special book. We also had ballet with Mrs Seenan.
This afternoon we had French with Madame Wilson and learnt the French word for butterflies, snails & ladybirds. We had lots of fun using the bebots with Mrs Andrews in our ICT lesson. We had to programme it to find its way to a certain picture, using forward, backwards left and right.

Monday 24 May
What a beautiful sunny day today – we all needed cream and sun hats on. This morning, the Caterpillar group worked with Mrs Andrews on a counting programme in ICT. We all talked about what we find in farm shops and which animal different meats come from. After break we had a phonics workshop. We went to a pretend shop and could only buy things that began with the same sound as our name. This was really tricky.
This afternoon, we have all been to music and drama. We have also carried on with our shopping basket cutting activity from this morning.
Our picture today is from our Assembly on Friday – there were so many pictures, we wanted to show you another one.
We were very clever this morning and learnt about adding on and taking away. Mrs Dabin wrote some sums on the smart board and we had to try and work out the answer with the multi link cubes.
We also started some clever writing and drawing for our new Farm Book we are putting together.
This afternoon we had plan do review and it was lovely to make the most of the beautiful sunshine outside.

Friday 21 May
Super! Fantastic! Brilliant! Wonderful! All of these words were used by our teachers, Mummies and Daddies to describe our Nursery Assembly. There were a few tears (not us, just the grown ups!) which we think is strange because we don’t think they could have been sad. They told us they were tears of joy – how funny! Miss Soutter and Mrs Wicks were so proud of us and we all really enjoyed ourselves. To think that it was only a few months ago that we didn’t even like standing up in our own classroom and saying things in front of our friends and now we have performed in front of over a hundred people! We definitely deserve a weekend off!
What a lovely show the nursery girls put on for us all this morning. We can’t believe it was only a year ago that was us! When the teachers had to get on the stage and perform ‘The Lycra Song’ we all thought that was very funny.
We had plan do review this morning and Tilly decided to draw a beast and write some facts about it. Some of us put on a show for all our friends - it was about a ballerina and her wicked step mum! In the afternoon we had modern dance.

Thursday 20 May
This morning the Caterpillars watched the Butterflies do their show. It was the first time we had an audience and they loved us! Our teachers took the part of the girls that were not here today and it was very funny. We had a lot of fun outside today and the thing we enjoyed most was painting with our feet! We stood in the paint and then walked over paper. Our teachers hung the pictures up outside for our mummies to see. Please remember that all of the Butterflies need to be in nice and early for our assembly tomorrow.
Today in Reception on our topic of farms we had to think of an animal and write a description, not naming the animal and read it out to the class and see if they could guess the name. This was really tricky but lots of fun.
After break some of us went with a partner to measure different items and record if they were taller or shorter. Mrs Wicks was decorating the hall and she had a paper mache animal – we all said that Mrs Wicks was taller!
After lunch we had swimming and Mrs Cuttill can’t believe our progress!

Wednesday 19 May
Today we had Mrs Clark helping us as Miss Soutter was on a course which will help us with our sounds. We were all very eager to show Mrs Clark where everything was and even took her swimming with us! After swimming, we finished off some artwork that we need for our assembly. We all needed to wear hats at break time as it was very sunny – Mrs Wicks reminded us that we should not take them off outside as our skin might get burnt, which would not be very nice. When we came in, it was off to the hall for a quick run through of our assembly, which went very well!
This afternoon, we talked about our visit to the farm shop and remembered some of the things we saw. We also wrote the sounds we could hear in them and drew pictures. Another very busy day!
Today in reception we had our Phonics session. Some of us revised our words starting with the ‘th’ sound, and then we had to be really clever and see if we could write down the words we were asked to.
Miss Munro brought some lambs wool for us to feel and smell, most of us thought it smelt yucky!! We also finished our sheep pictures and they will be on display in our classroom very soon.

Tuesday 18 May
Before ballet, we had a run through of our assembly, to see how long it lasts. It seems to be about fifteen minutes, which is perfect! We had our snack outside in our ballet outfit as it was so warm.
This afternoon, we went on a very long walk to Downingbury Farm shop. We walked along Old Church Road, then through the fields. At the top of the hill we stopped to look at our school. It was very small! We went over a bridge, high above the road and then we were at the farm. Earlier, we had made a list of things we might see and ticked them off once we found them in the shop. If we saw something that wasn’t on our list, we drew or wrote it. After a well earned rest and a gingerbread man, we walked all the way back to school in time for home.
Today in reception we had to write our own words to ‘We are going on an egg hunt’. It sounded just like ‘We are going on a bear hunt’! We acted out the story as we listened to it. We thought it was really funny to hide under our imaginary covers at the end of the story.
We also started our sheep pictures using pastels. Some of us got more on our hands and faces than on our paper, so we think we will probably need a bath before bedtime!

Monday 17 May
In Nursery, the Butterflies are very busy getting some last minute practice for our assembly. We haven’t had much time in the hall but we are sure you will enjoy watching us Friday morning. Those of us in the Caterpillar group had fun on the smart board with Mrs Andrews. We used a counting programme and had lots of fun finding the right number of farm animals. There were also numbers to write and patterns to copy. We all joined together after break for circle time.
After lunch some of the Butterflies built cvc words outside using magnetic letters and the Caterpillars had help from some Butterflies making farm animals for our display.
We learnt about shorter than and taller than this morning, and this afternoon we had plan, do, review. Some of us put on a fabulous show about Ariel the mermaid - she had to go and find some food for us to eat. She brought some lettuce and by the time she reached everyone under the sea it had turned into seaweed. Some of us made a card for Miss Munro to tell her how much we had missed her last week when she went to Norfolk with the year 5 girls. Florence made a rocket and Kasia made a castle that Queen Victoria used to live in. |

Friday 14 May
In Nursery we love our farm shop. We take turns being the customers and the shop keepers and enjoy using the till and stoking the shelves! To carry on with our farm theme, we made bread roll animals this morning with Mrs Wicks. We had to knead the dough for a long time and then make our animals. Mrs Wicks covered the trays and put them in the sun. When we looked at them again, they had grown! It was a magic ingredient called yeast that made this happen. We put them in the oven and when they were ready they smelt delicious.
In French, we like Madame Wilson telling us the Hungry Caterpillar story. We are learning all the words we need in French – une Fleur is one of them – can you guess what that means?
In Reception it was Plan, Do, Review. Lots of us made cards – some for birthdays and others for our sisters who will be coming home from Norfolk today. Some of us made an elephant for our Buddies and Jessica made a poster of David Cameron and Nick Clegg being Prime Minister. They will take turns, just like the monitors in class! |

Thursday 13 May
We have had such a busy morning. Some of us went to Music with Mrs Chapman and some of us had a lovely sing song in Nursery. There was also gym for the Butterflies whilst the Caterpillars enjoyed some dancing. The Caterpillars also used the scissors and cut out farm animals to stick on a pond or a field. We also played outside on the bikes and used all the other toys and equipment that our teachers had got ready for us. In the afternoon, there was more sticking and painting as we used circles to make cows, pigs, sheep and chicks for a classroom display.
In Reception today we listened to a story about Mrs Boot the farmer and her children Poppy and Sam visiting the farmers market. We had to retell the story in our own words. Some of us completed such super writing and pictures we went to show the Year 1 teachers what clever girls we are.
This afternoon we had swimming and practiced our breaststroke with our frog legs.

Wednesday 12 May
This morning we have been practising our ‘froggy’ legs in swimming! It’s quite tricky to do but we worked hard and even tried the arm movements as well. After playtime we had a run through of our assembly. We haven’t had much time on the stage yet but we are sure we will be fine on the day!
Our home corner is becoming a farm shop and we think it will be fun to play in it. Our teachers are finding lots of things to put in there to make it interesting for us.
In Reception, we played a phonics memory game of ‘I went to the market and bought….’. It was really tricky trying to remember everything that had been there before Mrs Beard took them all away! Some of us painted our clay farm animals. Tia’s Mummy and Grandma came in to show us their beautiful clothes that they wear when they are in India.

Tuesday 11 May
It has been a very busy day in Nursery. We started the day with an Early Years and Key Stage 1 Assembly with Mrs Dabin. After that, it was time for some of us to do a maths programme on the smart board, whilst others made a paper mache farm animal with Mrs Wicks. Soon, it was time for ballet and then more number and phonics. After lunch there we went on a long walk, down to the vegetable patch where we watered our plants. Then on to look at the sheep, back up through the orchard, through the Senior School buildings and then back to class for snack and a dance to ‘Barnyard Boogie’!
Today in reception class we did some very special writing on special paper, writing about the farmers market in the home corner in nursery. We had to write about where it is, what times it is open and what it might sell there.
This afternoon we had French with Madame Wilson and made some butter. We took it in turns to shake some cream in a bottle and see how long it would take to turn to butter – it took a very long time! |

Monday 10 May
It was a very chilly start to the week and we all needed our coats today! We hoped to wave our Year 5 friends off on their trip to Norfolk but the coach left early, so we missed them. We were a bit worried because the Year 5 girls help us at lunch time but Mrs Wicks said we will still get our lunch and the Year 6 girls will help instead!
We have finished our scarecrow collage – Darcie, Rebekah and Caroline put the finishing touches to it. To end the day, we all enjoyed dancing to the Barnyard Boogie and pretended to be lots of different animals.
In Reception, we have been looking at 2D shapes, in particular the properties of a square. In our Phonics session, we looked at the graphemes ‘ee’ and ‘ea, whilst others looked at ‘ch’ and some worked on cvc words. The afternoon was spent on our plan, do, review activities. Mrs Hall spent the whole day with us and although she misses her Year 5 girls, she had lots of fun with us!

Friday 7 May
Lots of excitement today! We all came in this morning as it was our class photo, Mrs Wicks was dressed in a school summer dress and we all laughed lots! Hermione, Jessica and Merry got to join our cookery lesson. We are all a bit sad that Mrs Lawson won’t be cooking with us for the next few weeks but Mrs Wicks has said she will cook instead.
We did some hard number work on the smart board and there was also our French lesson. Most of us chose to draw some bluebells that we saw on our walk to the woods yesterday. This afternoon, we did more number work and had a walk to our vegetable patch.
This morning we learnt about adding on and taking away. We had some other people come to play with us a break time, two lambs had escaped into the big girls field and Mrs Wicks helped then back to see their mummy.
We had a class photo of us all this morning we all smiled beautifully.
We had modern dance this afternoon and there was a chance for our mummies to meet our Year 1 teachers.

Thursday 6 May
Today, we went in groups up to the bluebell woods. It was peaceful and quiet, especially when Mrs Wicks asked us to stand in silence so we could hear the sounds of the woods. We heard trees creaking and lots of different birds. Some of us are working on a huge collage of a scarecrow for our farm topic. Our tractor race display is now up – who will be the winner?
In Reception, we went for a beautiful walk to the woods to see the bluebells, some of us even saw bluebells that were white! On the way back to school we saw sheep in the field with their baby lambs.
When we got back to school we wrote about what we had seen and heard and after lunch we have swimming – what a busy day.
I think we will be ready for bed. |

Wednesday 5 May
This morning we had the chance to practice our assembly in the hall. Our teachers are sure we will all be wonderful on the day! After break we went swimming. Mrs Cuttill was checking to see what we could do, such as enter and leave the pool safely and if we could put our faces in the water. This afternoon, we visited our vegetable patch and gave it water. There’s not much sign of life there but it is early days! When we came back, we made scarecrow pictures. Whilst some of us were making the pictures, the rest of us had fun with the sensory box. We put a row of bells on top of a wobble board and made lots of noise!
In Reception, after the visit from Tina the chicken, Elizabeth’s Mummy brought in eggs. The eggs have been put into an incubator outside our class and we are hoping that they will hatch.
We have been practising our phonics and handwriting this morning. We have also been to PE and had role play fun in the garden centre.

Tuesday 4 May
This morning we have been practising for the Butterflies class assembly (Caterpillars, it will be your turn next year!). All we can say at the moment is that there will be some singing and lots of drama! We have also started some large scale paintings of our faces.
We said goodbye to the ladybirds that have been in our class. They have been eating raisins soaked in water as well as flowers we picked for them. Some were still very small but we think they will be happier outside.
In Reception, we have done some creative writing which was about rules of the farm. Florence’s Mummy brought in Tina, their chicken for us all to look at. Her feathers were lovely and soft and she was very friendly.
We have had so much fun playing with all the wonderful things from the sensory box. There are lots of different textures to touch and sounds to hear.

Friday 30 April
Mrs Lawson had all her equipment today, so there was no trip to her house today! We made cupcakes and decorated them with icing face parts and mini smarties so they look very funny. We even made one for Mrs Wicks and Mrs Lawson (minus the goodies1). Raphaela said Mrs Lawson ‘is the best Mrs Lawson ever!’. In French with Madame Wilson we are learning minibeast names and singing our counting song.
In Reception, we have had Plan, Do, Review. Olivia B made some super story sticks of The Three Little Pigs, Natalia made a Union Jack and Milly W made a lovely handbag. This afternoon some of us have modern dance and we also have ICT with Mrs Andrews.
Don’t forget there is no school on Monday, so we will all be back on Tuesday.

Thursday 29 April
In Nursery today Mrs Wicks worked with the Butterfly group. We were adding objects and then writing the total which was quite tricky but we are very clever! The Caterpillars were with Miss Soutter and we were also doing number work. We traced over numbers and told Miss Soutter if we knew the number. We also practiced our names by tracing over them.
In Reception we learned this morning about the different parts of the world that our food comes from. We are making a display in the corridor, using a map and different food packaging. We also enjoyed our practical number work.
Unfortunately Mrs Cuttill was not in today and we couldn’t go swimming but we had a great time outside playing games and balancing things on our heads with Mrs Morris and Mrs Tyler.

Wednesday 28 April
This morning we have been swimming. Our swimming teachers thought we did very well and gave us all stars for our hard work. We played lots of number games as well using ordering, counting and number recognition. After break, we listened to the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. We thought the Giant was rather scary and we are not sure we would like to climb the beanstalk! We then drew pictures from the story and wrote about our pictures. Miss Soutter and Mrs Wicks are amazed at how much writing we can do now.
In Reception, we had fun with numbers as well. We helped Mrs Cyster find the missing number tiles and she said we are very clever! In PE, we had a great time practising our running, which will be very useful at Sports Day! It is so much nicer being outside for PE instead of in the hall. This afternoon, we have enjoyed playing in our Garden Centre and with water!
Please can we make sure we have our hats in school? We also still need a coat in case of rain – it’s a long walk to the dining hall! Anyone of us that is unable to use the school sun cream needs to make sure that we have a supply left at school. Thank you!

Tuesday 27 April
In Nursery, we have been very busy painting our tractors for a display. Miss Soutter found a hat which we wore for a photograph. It will look like we are driving the tractors! It was lovely to go to ballet again and we always enjoy getting dressed in our pretty pink leotards. After lunch, we had lots of fun with numbers. We ordered them and practiced number formation. We also used a number grid to find missing tiles. Then it was time to visit the vegetable patch. We spread the compost over and picked out any large stones. Then we planted peas, carrots and lettuce, which we will need to keep watered. We will let you know how we get on!
In Reception we were also very happy to be back at ballet. Miss Seenan was very impressed with our lovely pointy toes. In class, we enjoyed listening to the story of Jack and the Beanstalk which we then retold using our own words. There was lots of fun with water outside this afternoon. We like to use brushes to paint the walls, windows and doors! |
|
|
Monday 26 April
This morning, some of us have been painting card with Miss Soutter which will become tractors! We could choose any colour, so be prepared for some rather fabby looking tractors. Mrs Wicks is helping us to make papier mache farm animals. It is very messy with lots of watery glue and we have been quite sticky. We had a phonics session and some of us then worked on our fine motor skills, using tweezers!
In Reception we had an election for the class Prime Minister! This week’s democratically elected Prime Minister is Milly and her election promise was to be kind to everyone. As we know, Prime Ministers always tell the truth, so we are looking forward to everyone being very kind and happy! Next week we will elect someone else.

Friday 23 April
It has been so nice to have the classroom door open all day without freezing! We have been in and out since 8.40 this morning. Mrs Lawson helped us make pig face cakes (sponge cakes, icing and dolly mix snout and eyes). We needed an electric whisk, so Mrs Lawson took us for a walk to her house. We liked her kitchen and bin! In French we are beginning to learn minibeast names – do you know how we saw butterfly or caterpillar?
In Reception, it has been plan, do review. Some of us decided we would like to sing and dance for Nursery whilst others made an obstacle course, using the large wooden blocks. We have also made invites for a show we are performing for our friends this afternoon as well as giving Miss Munro a new hairstyle! Kasia is now back, so it’s only poor Brogan now that is missing school – we hope she isn’t too upset! |
|
|
Thursday 22 April
Today we welcomed some new friends into Nursery. Everybody came in beautifully and there were no tears from anyone! Mrs Wicks took the Butterfly group outside for some maths work. We rolled dice and added the spots on both of them and then searched the playground for the correct number tile. The Caterpillar group stayed with Miss Soutter and Mrs Cyster and painted some farm animals. Miss Soutter took the new Caterpillars on a tour of the school and we popped in for a sit down on Mrs Lawson’s sofa in her office. We all had a lovely day and we are looking forward to coming back next week.
In Reception we have been counting on in twos and fives which is quite tricky. However, we are sure that we will be quite clever at this. We also learnt the story of milk, which we drew and wrote about. We now know that milk (and beef) is not made at the supermarket but comes from cows. The cows have to eat grass to make the milk which we think is rather funny!. In the afternoon we had swimming which was lovely as it had got very warm, so we were glad we could cool off in the pool.

Wednesday 21 April
An update – Kasia and Brogan are stuck in Spain, poor things. We think they are so unlucky to be missing school and we hope they come back soon!
This morning we had our swimming lesson. Mrs Cuttill wanted to see if we had remembered how to do all the things we have learnt over the past two terms. She was very pleased with us all. Wednesday is now the day that all of the Butterfly group are in so it is a good day for practising our class assembly. Our topic is Farms and we all had a paper farmhouse which we filled with drawings of farm animals. We all had a try at writing their names.
In Reception, we have also been looking at farms. We will be working on a large wall display for our class. Some of us made some very woolly sheep, using cotton wool and lots of glue! There were also farms and animals to play with which we really enjoyed. |

Tuesday 20 April
How lovely to be back at school on such a beautiful sunny day! It has been lovely catching up with each other’s news and finding out what exciting things we have been doing during the holidays. Luckily, none of us in Early Years have been delayed by the volcano in Iceland.
During the holidays, the cocoons in Nursery have hatched and we had five butterflies to look at. Their names are Bella, Olivia, Dave, Bob and Jack! Miss Soutter explained that it would be unkind to keep them so we released them onto some pretty flowers and after a short rest they flew off.
There was plenty of time to play in the sunshine and it was great fun being able to play on the grass and in the Wendy house. It had been so muddy and wet before Easter that we couldn’t play on the grass even with our wellies on.
The home corner in Reception is now a garden centre and in Nursery it has become a shoe shop. Lunch was sausages and mash, so our first day back at school was just about perfect. |

Thursday 25 March
We can’t believe that it is the last day of term already! We are all looking forward to spending time with our families. Some of us will also be going away on a holiday, which is lovely. We have had some lovely Easter colourings and we have also used the sand, water, puzzles, paints and other toys and equipment Some of us went to watch the inter house drama, which was very exciting. We saw our buddies and big sisters and Bronte was the winning house this year.
Please remember that when we come back it is in our summer dresses, with sweatshirts or cardigans and shoes with white socks. We also need to have our hair tied back with navy ribbons or hair bobbles. Our teachers wish us all a happy holiday and look forward to seeing us again on 20th April. |

Wednesday 24 March
This morning we couldn’t go swimming as the pool was broken. So, our swimming teachers took us to the hall for some fun and games. We also all got swimming certificates and badges to take home. We then had time to choose our own activity – some of us chose to thread beads and buttons, others chose to play with puzzles and there were also Easter cards to finish. In the afternoon, we put on our wellies and went to our veggie patch to plant sunflowers and broad beans. It was very muddy and we also saw the longest, wriggliest worm in the world!
In Reception, we had lots of fun with sound games. We played sound lotto, made up silly words and sound houses. In gym we were in teams and had to pass balls over our heads and then run to the back of the line. We tried to do a special Easter craft with real eggs, masking tape and paint but it was a bit of a disaster, so they won’t be coming home! |

Tuesday 23 March
It is all back to normal today after all the excitement of the Easter Egg Hunt yesterday. This morning, some of us made an Easter card, and some of us did still life drawings and painting of daffodils. We wrote our names in the cards ready to take home this week. Miss Soutter told us about the Easter story and we drew pictures of our favourite parts. We now know that Easter is not all about chocolate. This afternoon, we are going on a Spring walk. We are taking clipboards and pencils with us so that we can draw any signs of Spring to show Mrs Wicks when we get back.
Those of us in Reception were very lucky this morning as we went to the theatre to watch Key Stage two Gym and Dance production. Some of us saw our sisters and we can’t wait until we can be just like them. After playtime, Miss Munro told us about the Easter story and we did some writing on it. This afternoon we have ICT with Mrs Andrews and we are colouring in Easter eggs on the computer, using the mouse. We also have French with Madame Wilson, so we will be very busy.
Please can we remember that Thursday this week is the last day of term and that we are not back until Tuesday 20th April |

Monday 22 March
Today has been very busy in Early Years! One of the first things we did was to sing Happy Birthday to Mrs Wicks and we made sure she had plenty of birthday hugs. Then we had lots of parents coming to look at our school to see if their daughters would like it here. They all saw how happy we are and loved our classrooms with our colourful displays. In Nursery we were all working on daffodils – we had a vase of daffodils and we drew then painted them. We also drew and wrote about daffodils, as well as drawing them on the smart board. In Reception, there were lots of number and phonic games for us to play with.
This afternoon, we have had a special visitor – the Easter Bunny has been! He waved at us through the window and then we saw him in our playground. He had hidden chocolate eggs for us and we had great fun trying to find them. Our teachers told us that we needed to find ten small eggs and one large egg each and gave us pretty striped bags to put them in. It was quite funny that suddenly we had forgotten how to count and when our teachers looked in our bags, there were rather more than ten eggs! They sorted them out for us so there were enough to go round. What a fun, busy day!

Friday 18 March
We were very happy in Nursery because Mrs Lawson came to cook with us. We let her help make chocolate bird’s nests with chocolate eggs and we all had a little taste which was very yummy! We loved her apron which was covered in handprints and we would like to make one too but with footprints. Mrs Lawson explained that she couldn’t wear it while we did it and we weren’t sure she was right, so we asked Mrs Lawson to lie on the floor to check this out!
In Reception we had plan, do review. Some of us made a castle for the Queen (photo) and put animals there to guard the Queen. They would growl to scare the people away. Some of us made Easter cards, and some of us wanted to improve our counting skills.
This afternoon we are very excited to have a special person coming – its Percy the Park keeper. Some of us remember him visiting when we were in Nursery and we are looking forward to learning about plants and how they grow. Our playground will look even more lovely than normal. |

Wednesday 17 March
The sun has got his hat on yet again today so we have enjoyed playing in the garden. We have lots of colourful dinosaur books with exciting stories to read. It really is amazing how much we are learning about dinosaurs, we learnt that some dinosaurs like to eat meat and some dinosaurs like to eat leaves.
What a busy day we are having, first thing this morning we watch the KS1 girls perform their spring show – we thought they we all fantastic! On the spring theme we thought it was such a lovely day that we would go for a spring walk. We saw some beautiful flowers and some of us knew their names. We also had P.E this morning, and are starting to practice running in a straight line and in relay races. We all enjoyed our lunch and playing in the sun at lunchtime.
|
|
|
Tuesday 16 March
Nursery enjoyed another dinosaur day and we made some fantastic masks. In the afternoon we built a dinosaur cave in the sun. Alex thought the cave was ‘the best’.
It was such a lovely day that we were allowed on the grass and some of us practiced our 'head over heels' and cartwheels, we were very careful not to roll into any of our friends. Some of the big girls came over to watch how clever we have become.

Monday 15 March
Miss Soutter bought us a new toy. We found it so exciting that we asked to learn about dinosaurs all week. We could not wait to get home and find all the dinosaur toys or books to bring into school to share.
In Reception we have been learning about direction. We know which is forwards and backwards but some of us got our left and right mixed up. We used the robots and directed them around the shapes on the carpet, while some of us went outside and one of us was blindfolded while our friends had to give us directions on which way to go around the obstacles – we thought this was really funny!

Friday 12 March
This morning we had Mrs Hall with us for cookery. As it’s Mother’s Day on Sunday, our teachers thought we could make Mummy and children biscuits! We had lots of fun rolling the dough out and cutting out Mummies, girls and boys. We didn’t cook them this morning as the kitchen was being used by Mummies helping with the Mother’s Day Fair. However, Mrs Wicks cooked them at lunch time so we can decorate them this afternoon. In French we made stick puppets with Madame Wilson which we all enjoyed.
In Reception it has been plan, do, review. Natalia made a spider from black card and pipe cleaners, Olivia B and Rachel put on a show based on the Princess and the Frog. Kasia made a Mummy Day card and a birthday card for her sister Lucy and Milly L made a game of boules for her friends. We all visited the Mother’s Day Fair as well and have bought lovely presents which we will give to our Mummies, along with the presents we have already made. This afternoon we have ICT with Mrs Andrews and we are using a programme which helps us with mouse control. |

Thursday 11 March
This morning the Caterpillar group made special cards with Miss Soutter. They are for our Mummies but we can’t tell you anything more about them as they are a surprise! We also looked at two 3D shapes – a cube and a sphere. We learnt that a cube has six faces and each face is the same, with four equal sides. The sphere has no faces and no sides, Mrs Wicks hid them under a cloth and we had to identify them by touch. Mrs Chapman said we are a lovely group and we all enjoy our music session with her. This afternoon, we are carrying on with our large scale Mummy pictures.
In Reception we have been looking at numbers again. We have been counting backwards from any given number. As it is a special day on Sunday for our Mummies, we listened to a story called 'Five Minutes Peace’. In the story, Mrs Large’s children won’t let her have any time to herself. Our teachers have told us that grown ups do need to have a few minutes each day to relax so we will all try and give our Mummies their bit of peace on Sunday (no promises though!).

Wednesday 10 March
In Nursery, we went to our swimming lesson. Our friend Olive came today to try it out and she had a lovely time. After swimming, we carried on with our special craft project (all finished now!) and have started drawing and painting pictures of our Mummies. We are using very big pieces of paper and we have found it quite difficult to draw at this scale. This afternoon we will continue with the paintings as well as joining Reception for Open House.
In Reception we worked hard on our phonics. Some of us looked at ‘ay’ ‘igh’ and ‘ow, whilst some of us practiced writing sounds in the air, on the ground and on our friends backs (don’t worry – we used fingers not pens!). We also did some more Fred talk. In the afternoon, two Mummies came in and helped us make something special for our Mummies – we can’t tell you because it’s a surprise!
We also had a fire drill. Our teachers explained what we needed to do and we know how to be safe and behave if ever there was a real fire.

Tuesday 9 March
In Nursery we have been very busy. There were cards and other special craft works to finish off. We also had our ballet lesson and then before lunch we all worked on the smart board using phonic and number programmes with Mrs Wicks. We are all working very hard and our number recognition and counting skills are improving all the time, along with our ability to hear and identify sounds in words. This afternoon, we will continue with writing about our Mummies.
In Reception we have also been writing about our Mummies and what they do for us. Lauren said that her Mummy’ does a lot of lot of things’ for her. Others said their Mummies washed their clothes, looked after them or gave them drinks at bed time. This afternoon we have ICT WITH Mrs Andrews and she has helped us type messages for our Mummies.
|
|
|
Monday 8 March
This morning, we have been talking about Mummies. We listened to a story ‘I’ll always love you’ which was how a Mummy bear loved her baby bear, even though he had broken something special. Miss Soutter then sat with us whilst we drew a picture of our Mummies and wrote about the nice things that they do for us. There were also special cards to finish off and something else that is a surprise! This afternoon we have music with Mrs Chapman and in drama we acted out ‘We’re all going on a bear hunt’.
In Reception we have been busy making beautiful cards with Mrs Beard. Mrs Dabin helped us with our counting and adding. Miss Munro worked on sounds with us. We did some Fred talk (we sound each sound out in a word, getting faster and faster until it blends together and you can then hear the whole word!) and looked at the ‘ow’ sound as in snow and blow.
Although the sun has been shining, it is very cold outside so please make sure we have hats, mittens and coats. Thank you! |

Friday 5 March
This morning we had a special visitor. Mrs Hall, who is one of our Year Five teachers, came to cook with us. We made Mummy rabbit and baby rabbit (kitten) biscuits. Mrs Hall thought we were very good girls and was amazed at how much we knew. In French we carried on with our ‘pluie’ song. It was also one of our friends birthday’s today. She brought in cakes which she had made with her Mummy and Daddy. On the top were chocolate bunnies and we all enjoyed eating outside in the sunshine after singing Happy Birthday to her.
In Reception we had Plan Do Review this morning. Paulina chose to take photos of the other girls and their chosen activities. Today’s photo has been taken by her and our teachers think we have a budding photographer! Some of us put on a show for the rest of the class dressed as mermaids, a rabbit and a dog. This afternoon our Mummies and Daddies will watch us during our Modern Dance lesson.

Thursday 4 March
This morning, we talked about baby animals again. We think it’s funny that our groups are Caterpillars and Butterflies, because a caterpillar is a baby butterfly! The Caterpillars painted pictures of baby animals, played with the puzzles and used tweezers to pick up dog bones with Mrs Lawson. Using tweezers to pick up things will help us with writing as it uses the same muscles. The Butterflies continued with the special art activities as well as the puzzles and the dog bone game. We also managed to fit in Music, Gym and playtime before lunch.
Yesterday in Reception, we had a very special visitor. He had four legs and was just four months old – it was Dexter, the puppy! Unlike human babies, Dexter can already walk and eat without help which we think is very clever. Brogan is very lucky to have such a beautiful puppy. Today in Reception we have written about the Teeny Weeny Tadpole. We have also been counting back from any given number and looking at addition. |

Wednesday 3 March
On Wednesdays Nursery have quite an early start to the day. We leave for the swimming pool at about 8.40 which gives us plenty of time to get ready for our lesson. Today we have been practising the leg movement for breast stroke – we think we look like frogs! We also had a go at jumping in unaided which was good fun. This afternoon we are looking at sounds and starting on some important art projects!
In Reception, we had a special visitor. Mrs June Darbyshire is a Governor of the school and used to be a pupil at our Senior School. She showed us some pictures which were black and white and talked to us about her time at school. We have looked at a new ‘i’ sound which is ‘igh’ and we have also had gym. This afternoon we will have music. |

Tuesday 2 March
In ballet this morning, our Mummies came to watch us. They were amazed at how well we danced and listened to instructions. As we were so wonderful, our teachers have said that we can have a party in dressing up clothes this afternoon.
The weather is once again beautiful, so we took a long walk to the lunch hall. We went to the old church and to our surprise it was open, so we all went inside for a good look round. It was very beautiful and the lady inside said that swallows use the porch to nest in! When we left the church, we found yellow and purple crocuses and some very pretty snowdrops. Freya knew that we must not pick them.
In Reception this morning we wrote about the life cycle of a frog in our writing books. Most of us could remember that they start as an egg, and then they eat their way out as a tadpole, finally turning into a frog. We also had Mummies come to watch our ballet and they also thought we danced beautifully.
It was such a lovely lunchtime with the sun shining that some of us decided to look for worms, caterpillars and ants.
