Higher Education
In recent years, 100% of KC students have proceeded to universities and art colleges either directly after A levels or after taking a gap year. The careers programme aims to make students fully aware of the whole range of career possibilities so that they can make informed choices. At an early stage, students are introduced to the careers library, a range of software on higher and further education as well as details of relevant websites.
The advice and resources in school are supplemented by talks from visiting speakers, visits to universities and to a higher education convention, and by opportunities to attend careers-based courses out of school. Early in the Lower Sixth, students are encouraged to take part in 'Centigrade', a computerised Higher Education guidance programme which matches interests to possible careers and courses.
The school's fully qualified Head of Careers and team of Careers tutors give individual help and guidance through the process of choosing the right course and place to study, and making applications. The structured programme covers applying through UCAS, interview technique, gap year planning, graduate employment and student finance. Academically able candidates are prepared for admission to Oxford and Cambridge.
