Visitors & Lecturers
At Kent College there are many opportunities for pupils to hear from external speakers and guest lecturers as part of the subjects they are being taught (organised by the Head of Department) or as extra-curricular opportunities.
Every year the whole school is invited to attend our Speech Day (Summer term) and Birthday Lecture (Autumn term) events where we invite a keynote speaker to deliver an engaging and thought provoking speech or presentation. In recent years, speakers have included:
In the Sixth Form pupils enjoy regular talks from visiting guests as part of their Higher Education Programme. The subjects of these talks vary from pastoral topics including alcohol awareness, safe driving, self image and self defence to academic and higher education topics including Gap Years, University applications and success in the workplace. Recent speakers have also included Nick Medlam on The UK's cost of membership outweighs the benefits of being in the EU and Ben Patterson on The advantages of EU membership for the United Kingdom.
In the Lower & Middle School pupils hear similar pastoral information through talks in PSHCE and assemblies.
Our Margaret James Society also provides pupils from Years 7 - Upper Sixth with plenty of opportunity to hear from academics regarding a variety of topics and themes. This Society was established for the Scholars of Kent College, however pupils across the school are welcome to attend the lectures if they are interested in the subject being discussed.
