Academic

At Kent College Prep we understand how to help each child grow and develop as an individual, be adventurous and develop skills for life.

We encourage excellent academic achievement through a personalised approach to learning that caters to every pupil's needs and interests.

Our curriculum aims to encourage curiosity in our learners and the confidence to question, whether inside or outside the classroom. Children are encouraged not to be afraid to get things wrong but to persevere which is an essential part of the learning journey.

Pupils have exceptionally positive attitudes to all aspects of their learning. They have a ‘can do’ attitude and persevere at all ages, greatly enjoying working together.

Pupils are highly confident and are well prepared for the next stage of their lives

Personalised Offer

Experience tells us that each child is unique and that children do not all develop in the same way at the same time, and that opportunity needs to be available at the point when the child is ready to take it. Our adaptive teaching approach sets the same ambitious goals for all pupils with the appropriate level of support.

Recognising these differences means that we encourage children to present their work in the way that suits them; video or digital presentations, oral presentations, 2D or 3D models, will all showcase a child’s understanding of a particular subject.

Specialist Teaching

The curriculum is broad and varied with specialist teaching in Music, French, Drama, Dance, PE and Mandarin (in Year 6).

Learning includes weekly Computing lessons which enable children to gain practical skills for the digital world, including how to stay safe online and coding which complements and supports learning in all areas of the curriculum.

Outdoor Learning

A broad, exciting curriculum is enriched by weekly outdoor learning opportunities. Outdoor learning is an essential part of our offer and children are encouraged to explore our beautiful outdoor spaces and woodlands in Forest School. It provides opportunities to develop skills of negotiation, resilience and independence and equips the children with the courage and confidence they need to navigate life.

From lessons in species classification, to closer examination of habitats, to building a river course from natural materials, to a mindful walk, it is an integral part of how we complement learning and a fundamental part of our wellbeing offer.

Global Citizens and PSHE

Global Citizenship lessons ensure that all Kent College Prep pupils are equipped and prepared with the knowledge and understanding to make impactful decisions in the future.

Pupils learn to empathise with others and understand themselves better; they learn to value their world and think about what they can do to make a positive impact in it.

Personal Social and Health Education (PSHE) helps children to deal with the issues they face every day such as friendships, emotional wellbeing and change.

Ready and Prepared

We instill values such as perseverance, resilience, empathy and kindness in our pupils, all of which give children the building blocks to become great citizens as they grow. These principles are embedded in our curriculum and fostered through clubs, community support, and fundraising for our chosen charities.

Our pupils leave the Prep School prepared for wherever their next steps take them. Around half move up to our all-girls Senior School each year and the majority of other leavers join local grammar schools, as we have an excellent history of success in the Kent Test.
