Choosing the Right School.
Early Years includes Nursery and Reception, and during this time, your child will follow the Early Years Foundation (EYFS) curriculum which sets the standards for the learning, development and care of your child. Whilst learning becomes a little more formal in Reception than that experienced in Nursery, with the introduction of e.g. Literacy and Maths, play remains a very important part of your child’s development. Carefully planned activities should encourage curiosity and creativity, ensuring the children develop a love of learning alongside equally important social skills.
These first steps will provide the building blocks of your child’s educational journey, shaping their approach and attitude to life-long learning. It will support their ability to connect with their peers and help shape their view of the world.
So deciding what is important to you as a family will be critical in choosing the right school.
Probably foremost in your mind will be finding a school that is going to suit your child, with excellent teaching and plenty of opportunities to explore and develop interests and passions.
You will want to feel confident that your child will be known, valued and nurtured to be the best they can be in a setting which prepares them well for their educational journey, wherever that might take them.
The ethos and ‘feeling’ of the school will also be important to you, where excellent communication between you and the school supports your child’s academic and personal development.
Flexible wrap-around care may also be high on your list of priorities. Many families have two working parents (more than half of families with only one child have both parents working full-time ONS July 2022) which means that flexible hours either side of the school day is an essential part of your support network
